InterAct Faculty

Richard Valentine, Director, is a career stage director, acting coach and teacher with a Master’s Degree in Theatre. He founded Kentucky’s Playhouse in the Park, worked for several years in New York as associate to a Broadway Producer and was Executive Director of The Burt Reynolds Institute and Theatre. He is in his 17th year at Bak Middle School of the Arts, where he serves as Chair of the Theatre Department. He has operated InterAct Studio since 1998.

Joe Hernandez, Instructor, is an aspiring performer and director with a passion for teaching. He has acted in numerous films through FSU’s prestigious film school, and recently toured with Capital City Shakespeare’s production of Romeo and Juliet as Mercutio. He served as director of the 30in60 sketch comedy troupe during their 10th season. This is his first year as a Guest Instructor at Bak MSOA. Hernandez has been teaching and coaching at InterACT for seven seasons.

Rose Pascal, Instructor is a talented young actress and acting coach. She has appeared in No Place to be Somebody at Maltz Jupiter Theatre, Edward Albee’s The American Dream and Wiley and The Hairy Man. Last season she wowed audiences appearing in Fats Waller’s Ain’t Misbehavin’. She has taught for four seasons at InterAct specializing in movement pieces. She is currently on the faculty at Bak Middle School of the Arts as an Artist-in-Residence and has been with InterAct for four years.

MONDAYS September 21 – December 14 14 One-hour sessions Instructor: Rose Pascal

4:30-5:30 Red Box Theatre Students Grade 2 & 3 Tuition: $240 14 one-hour sessions Story Theatre, Improvisation, creative dramatics, imagination exercises, and the elements of play production. A fun class that builds remarkable critical thinking skills and develops great tools for young actors. Sept. 21, 28, Oct. 5, 12 19, 26, Nov. 2, 9, 23, 30, Dec. 7, 14.

5:30-6:30 Actor in Motion Students Grade 4 Tuition: $240 14 one-hour sessions This class includes monologue and scene work and is a great prelude to audition preparation. In spoken word, music and in movement, this class also creates original performance pieces reflecting students’ everyday lives. Sept. 21, 28, Oct. 5, 12 19, 26, Nov. 2, 9, 23, 30, Dec. 7, 14.

TUESDAYS September 15 – December 15 Twelve one-hour sessions Instructor: Joe Hernandez

4:30 Acting on Camera Students Grade 5, 6, 7, 8+ Tuition: $240 Twelve one-hour sessions
Camera Class. This class is specifically gear toward film, television and commercial auditions. Students will learn how to prepare and shoot a video audition. This class incorporates script preparation and the tips you need to be professional when you are called on to ‘hit your mark’ and ‘slate.’ Sept. 15, 22, 29, Oct. 6, 13, 27, Nov. 3, 10, 17, Dec. 1, 8, 15.

5:30 Comedy Club Students Grade 5, 6, 7, 8+ Tuition: $240 Twelve one-hour sessions Comedy Improvisation. Everything from Freeze to short- and long-form comedy is explored along with exciting theatre exercises designed to challenge and prepare young actors. Learn techniques for sharing the stage in scenes with more than two players and forms of improv that bring out the best (funniest) part of you. Sept. 15, 22, 29, Oct. 6, 13, 27, Nov. 3, 10, 17, Dec. 1, 8, 15.

6:30 The Actor Prepares Students Grade 5+ (Middle School Prep) Tuition: $240 Twelve one-hour sessions
Acting & Audition Preparation: An acting class focused on developing skills and experience so that the young actor will be relaxed and fully prepared for the middle school audition. Mock Audition included. Private Coaching also available. Sept. 15, 22, 29, Oct. 6, 13, 27, Nov. 3, 10, 17, Dec. 1, 8, 15.

Acting & Audition Preparation: An acting class focused on developing skills and experience so that the young actor will be relaxed and fully prepared for the middle school audition. Mock Audition included. Private Coaching also available.

Serious preparation for important auditions: An acting class focused on developing skills and experience so that the young actor will be relaxed and fully prepared for the middle school audition. Mock Audition included. Private Coaching also available. Sept. 26, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, Nov. 7, 14.
12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m. The Actor Prepares (High School Intensive) Students Grade 8+ Tuition: $240 Eight 90-minute sessions

Serious preparation for important auditions: focused on selecting the right audition material and developing skills and experience so that the young actor will be relaxed and fully prepared for the high school audition. Private Coaching also available. Sept. 26, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, Nov. 7, 14.

PRIVATE COACHING is available upon request from all InterAct instructors through the InterAct office. Hourly rates vary depending on the nature of the private coaching. Rates may be prorated for the half- or three-quarter hour sessions.

STAFFING InterAct Studio, Inc. reserves the right to make changes in staff as may be deemed necessary from time to time. Classes are usually staffed with a student counselor in addition to the Instructor. The Counselor assists with clerical work, warm-ups, exercises and supervision as needed. Class time is limited so parents are asked to communicate by phone or e-mail with any questions or concerns.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION TUIITION & FEES All classes require a commitment for the term of the course. Course fees are due and payable at the time of registration and prior to the first class. In addition, all students new to InterAct are required to pay a one-time registration fee of $35 which applies to future camps and classes for the student. COURSE SCHEDULE The first class begins on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Classes never meet on days when school is not in session (based on the student attendance calendar for the Palm Beach County School District.) Classes do meet on LTM/PDD days (half-days.)

MISSED CLASSES If you miss a class or know you are going to miss a class, you may be able to attend another class with a similar age group in the same week by prior arrangement. Just text or call 561-222-4228 in advance.

• AUDITIONS Several acting classes are offered to help students prepare for upcoming auditions.
• CLASS TIME A one-hour class meets for 50 minutes to allow prep and follow-up time between classes. Likewise, some intensive 90-minute classes meet for 80 minutes.
• CLASS SCHEDULE We follow the schedule of the Palm Beach County School District. Classes meet on days students go to school including LTM/PDD (half-days.)
• MAKE-UP DAYS If you must miss a class, you may be able to make it up and attend a similar class by prior arrangement.
• PRIVATE COACHING for Theatre and Communications auditions as well as Film/TV/Commercial auditions is available by appointment.
